Raising money through golf competitions at Wrag Barn Golf Club
It may be my imagination, but the request for money to support charitable causes increases every year. Websites such as Just Giving make it very easy for money to be donated, but the pot is finite. We get 3 or 4 requests a week for a 4 ball voucher that can be included in a raffle and we have reached a stage where we can’t help everybody, the value of a 4 ball voucher during the week is £120.00 and I don’t think everybody realises that when they ask for a 4 ball – with a cup of tea thrown in as an afterthought.
Another way to raise money for charity is through playing golf with a group of friends, work colleagues or clients and making a small charge for the entry. Yesterday at Wrag Barn, we had the annual British Heart Foundation Mixed Greensomes Cup, 52 people entered the competition, there was a raffle and we sold some BHF branded goods. The total money raised was £350 and everybody had a bit of exercise, some good food and company.
We can vary the days with chipping competitions, beat the pro, a coaching session and have an array of formats which can vary the day.
